Posted by

Tolichowki is a modern suburb of Hyderabad city with a very rich history. For those familiar with the languages of Hindi and Urdu will have an idea as to what Tolichowki literally means. The very name of the area literally translates into ‘army’ and ‘post’ (Toli means army or troop, while chowki means a post). Going back into the medieval ages, the area was used by troops of the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb to lay siege to Golconda (a surrounding area), ruled by Abul Hasan Tana Shah.

Till this day, the area is abound with historical mosques dating back to those olden days. As mentioned earlier, the area is close to the historical Golconda Fort and the Qutub Shahi Tombs (also known as Seven Tombs) at distances of 4 km and 3.7 km respectively. Both these sites are of immense historical interest to tourists. So, in order to reach any of these two places, you can drop by Tolichowki, too.

The locality has gained quite a reputation in the last couple of years for its cuisine – ranging from the Hyderabadi Biryani, Haleem, Arabian Shawarma, Irani Chai to the Osmania biscuits. Some of the famous eateries in the area which offer these delicacies at affordable prices are Hotel Rumaan, Hotel Arbaab, Shah Ghouse Hotel and the Four Seasons Food Court. Ice creams of various flavours are available in the latter. You can always have your food parceled too in case you want to have with your near and dear ones back at home. The Irani Chai and the accompanying Osmania biscuits are a must-try for anyone in Hyderabad for the first time. Those having experienced the taste, brand it as the best in Hyderabad. All the mentioned eateries have special sections to accommodate families, too.

Tolichowki is an upmarket and posh area in many degrees and resembles the suburbs of Beirut in Lebanon. Foreigners such as Somalis, Iranians, Iraqis and others prefer the area a lot for cultural similarities. Branded showrooms when it comes to clothing, food items and luggagebags are readily available here. Being very close to the IT corridors of Hitec City, Gachibowli, Madhapur and Kondapur, the area is a preferred residential location for many IT professionals. The locality is at a distance of 29 km from the city’s main airport and 14 km from the Secunderabad Railway Station. In cases of emergencies, the area has a lot of hospitals and clinics such as Kaaba Hospital and Relief Hospital.

Thus, if you are in the last leg of your journey in Hyderabad and looking at spending a pleasant evening at the Golconda Fort and the Seven Tombs, then Tolickowki is definitely the place you will choose as your boarding point, not only for its proximity to the historical sites, but also for everything it has got to offer.
