Marathahalli: The IT Passage

Posted by

Marathahalli, a burgeoning neighbourhood in Bangalore, prides itself as the confluence of the IT passage—Whitefield and Electronics City. This neighbourhood got its name after a fighter aircraft, called Marut, crashed in the area. Halli in Kannada signifies village.

Earlier, a nondescript area; Marathahalli is now a leading choice for IT professionals and expats in the city, thus adding to its cosmopolitan allure. The frenetic rise of housing complexes, office buildings and shopping malls have undoubtedly compromised on the green space, but it is soon turning out to be one of the preferred residential choices for locals as well because of its good amenities and hospitals like Vydehi Hospital and Genesis Hospital.

Its comprehensive transportation facility — the Outer Ring Road passes through this locality and the six-lane railway over bridge links HAL Airport to Kundalahalli — also adds to the charm of this locality. The main city centres like Indiranagar (7.8 km), Whitefield (8.2 km), Koramangala (12.5 km), Madiwala (15 km), Majestic (16 km), Bangalore City Railway station (17 km) and  Bangalore International Airport (45 km) are very well connected to this locality.

Buses are the best way to navigate to and fro this area, as it is fast, regular and reasonable. Besides the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) buses, private operators like Kallada Travels and SRS Travels run their buses in the area. Autorickshaws are available in plenty, but you must always insist on the driver to ply on metre. Also, this place is soon emerging as one of the top boarding points because you will easily get direct buses for HSR Layout, BTM Layout or Electronics City. Which otherwise is difficult in other localities.

This area does not lag behind when it comes to satiating the taste buds. It’s a foodie’s paradise as the options are limitless. From fine-dining to casual eateries to dhabas, you have it all here. Punjabi Tarka, Mainland China, Spice Garden, Rumali with a View, Resto Italia, Yo China, H2O, Beijing Bites and Purple Haze are a few choices you can opt for. If you love South Indian delicacies, Salt and Pepper, Madurai Idli Dosa Shop, Malgudi, Chettinad Food Paradise, Bumble Bee and Aadyar Ananda Bhavan are some of the places, which you will definitely love.

It is also a haven for shoppers, as several factory outlets are located in the area. You name it, and you have it all at discounted prices. What’s more fascinating is that after you are done with your shopping, you can catch the latest movie at the Innovative Multiplex, the city’s very first.

There is also the HAL Aerospace Museum, 2.5 km from the neighbourhood, which you can visit. You will get to see various helicopters and aircraft displayed at the centre.

So, whether you want to catch your bus, or catch up with old friends, or shop or dine, Marathahalli is your one-stop destination, which will never fail to surprise you.
