Kalasipalayam: One of the oldest bus stands in Bangalore

Posted by

Kalasipalayam bus stand in Bangalore, which is over seven decades old, is one of the first in the city.  This was the place from where all inter-state buses started its journey. More than 70 years later, this bus stand remains neglected with all the dirt and garbage strewn around. Not to mention of the stench everywhere. Despite the absolute neglect, it is still an important transit point for all those people coming in and going out of the city.

Situated nearly 36 km away from the airport and around 4.8 km from the Majestic Railway Station, Kalasipalayam is also close to Madiwala bus stand (6.5 km) and other important hubs of the city like Koramangla (7.6 km), Indiranagar (9.7 km), Electronics City (17.6 km) and JP Nagar (8.3 km). The numerous budget hotels in the area also add to the charm of this place. It is considered to be a focal point for several tourists coming to the city because of its proximity to several places in and around Bangalore and various eateries dotting the area, where anyone can grab a quick bite. If anyone is looking for entertainment in the area, there are theatres nearby where the latest movies are screened.

Kalasipalayam also houses the offices of several top operators like KPN Travels, SRM Transport, Kesineni Travels and Abt X Travels. So, passengers travelling out of Bangalore can take buses from this boarding point to any destination. Also, it is easy for tourists to book bus tickets from this boarding point without any hurdle. They can take their pick from Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) or private buses.

Recently, the Bangalore government had allotted Rs 300 crore for a makeover. The project is expected to have a separate parking space for motorcycles and cars, besides a commercial centre with space for private buses and booking counters. So, few years down the line, expect an upscale boarding point with all the amenities where you will be far from the garbage and the stench.
