Jayanagar, one of the oldest localities in Bangalore City, known for its lush green surroundings and Victorian-style houses, speak volumes of its former glory as a prominent and much sought-after area of old Bangalore.

Some say that the name Jayanagar, meaning Victory City, symbolises the Mysore king’s name, Jayachamraja. When this neighbourhood was formed in 1948, many tree saplings were planted throughout the vicinity. This stands testimony to the massive trees found today on either side of Nanda Talkies Road, providing shade on the stretch of the road converging at South End Circle. This locality was the first well-planned area and is said to have been planned by Sir. M.Visvesvaraya. The surrounding area consists of residential as well as commercial shops and a shopping complex.

To navigate across Jayanagar effortlessly, the locality has been divided into 10 blocks.  Out of these blocks, Jayanagar 3rd and 4th blocks have been chosen mainly for commercial establishments. Jayanagar 4th block is famous for its shopping complex and bus terminus which connects various parts of the city. With numerous companies, shopping establishments, schools, and colleges in its proximity, Jayanagar has slowly been transformed into a cosmopolitan area, yet having trails of its yonder years.
