J.P. Nagar, a residential locality, lying between Jayanagar, Banashankari, and BTM Layout is a systematically planned and developed area. The neighbourhood came up when Ramakrishna Hegde was the chief minister of Karnataka. It was formed as an extension for Jayanagar and Banashankari after the IT boom in the city
J.P. Nagar was named after Jaya Prakash Narayan, a Bharat Ratna awardee. The locality is a huge area connecting Kanakapura Road, Bannerghatta Road and Marenahalli Road. Many commercial establishments have also come up all across the area.
Its proximity to several city centres has made it convenient for the residents here. Jayanagar is only 2.4 km away, Banashankari (6.2 km), BTM Layout (4 km) and Bannerghatta Road (3 km). Major shopping areas such as MG Road are 9.2 km away, Bangalore International Airport is 42 km away and Bangalore City Railway Station is 11 km from here. With the increase of shopping malls in the near vicinity, people here tend to spend time in nearby malls such as the Central Mall (2 km away), Gopalan Innovation Mall (2 km) and Forum Mall (6 km) rather than going elsewhere.
This area is well connected to Shivajinagar Bus Station and Majestic Bus Station, as well as other local areas, through regular buses. Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation or the BMTC ply its buses other than private operators like KPN Travels and SRS Travels from this neighbourhood.
Residents do not need to venture far for entertainment, as the famous Ranga Shankara Theater, which was the dream of actor-director Shankar Nag, is located in this area. Here, you can catch live plays every day performed by artistes from the country as well as abroad. After watching a play, you can have a scrumptious meal at any of the restaurants which dot the area. You could then take a stroll in one the beautiful parks in the locality, or sit by the Sarakki Lake, which is the pride of the area.
