Indiranagar: The happening place to be

Posted by

Indiranagar in East Bangalore is one of the most happening places in the city. The streets are abuzz with activity; incessant honking of cars, buses and motorbikes are the order of the day.  The various showrooms, schools, colleges, offices, hospitals and restaurants located in the area makes it a sought-after hub. Also, its proximity to Domlur (2.2 km), CV Raman Nagar (4 km), Ulsoor (4.6 km), Madiwala (7.5), Koramangla (7.7 km), HSR Layout (10.6 km), Majestic Bus Stand ( 10.9 km), Majestic Railway Station (12.5 km), JP Nagar (14.4 km) and Bangalore airport (40 km) are instrumental in pulling a huge crowd to the locality.

Earlier, Indiranagar was mainly a residential area. However, with the IT boom in the city, the area changed gradually. Now it is a cosmopolitan neighbourhood, a hub for shoppers, students and office goers, as almost all branded showrooms are located in the area. It houses several fine dining restaurants like Smoke House Deli, Mainland China, The Island and Barbeque Nation; as well as budget restaurants like Madurai Idli Shop, Hotel Empire, Shanti Sagar, Punjabi Dhaba among others. Developed as a part of Bangalore Development Authority layout in the early eighties, it is also a major boarding point for several operators like SRS Travels and SRM Travels.

The Namma Metro line has been a boon in Indiranagar. It connects places like Byappanahalli and MG Road. It is also well connected to all the important places in the city as BMTC plies several buses throughout the day till late into the night.
It is even more attractive for tourists as there are several places of interest nearby. Ulsoor Lake is only 4.6 km away. The 1.5 sq km lake with several islands is a perfect place to go boating and unwind after a hectic day. A gurudwara on the banks of the lake built in the 1940s also attracts several visitors.

The popular Lal Bagh, which registers a huge footfall every day, is 9.3 km from the locality. The 240-acre garden plays host to an annual flower show in January, which is a must visit.

Indiranagar may be a commercial space now, but the entire area is dotted with trees and it brings out the best in spring when the entire landscape bursts into a riot of colours from pink, yellow, red to magenta.
