Banashankari, a locality in South Bangalore, got its name from the famous Banashankari Amma Temple on the Kanakapura Road. This temple, which was built by Subramanya Shetty, receives a huge number of devotees from near and far. Banashankari is a large area extending from Mysore Road to Kanakapura Road and is the only region in Bangalore City that has been divided into phases, stages and blocks.

This area is sandwiched between several localities like Srinagar, Hanumanthanagar, Girinagar, Thyagarajanagar, Uttarahalli, Padmanabhanagar, Kumaraswamy Layout, Basavanagudi, J.P.Nagar and Jayanagar.

Apart from the private operators like SRS Travels and Kallada Travels, the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has a large fleet of buses ranging from Volvo to Pushpak to regular buses connecting every corner of Banashankari to various areas in the city. It also runs buses from Srinagar to Hebbal, which is one of the longest bus routes in Bangalore. Private tours and travels’ operators dot the vicinity, making it easy boarding points for the residents.

Many of the important hubs of the city are just a bus ride away from this locality. Bangalore International Airport (41 km), Bangalore City Railway Station (8 km), MG Road (9 km), Srinagar (2 km), Hanumanthanagar (2 km), Basavanagudi (2 km), J.P.Nagar (6 km) and Jayanagar (5 km) away from Banashankari.

For the foodies, there are many restaurants and fast food joints providing vegetarian and non-vegetarian food. Some of the options you can try out are 1947, Casablanca, The Platter, Bobo’z, Dal Tadkaa. For the movie buffs, you can visit the Kamakya Theater which plays all the latest movies.

There are many amenities as well in the area. Several private nursing homes and hospitals dot the locality such as KR Hospital, Vinayaka Hospital, Meditech Multi Specialty Hospital and Surya Galaxy Hospital. For those of you who like dancing, there are a few institutes where you can learn several dance moves. Also, for the martial arts fanatics, there’s a Muay Thai Academy. The parks around Banashankari provide a respite for both the young and old.
